Stretch Therapy

Discover the joy of moving freely and with greater flexibility. Feel freedom in your back, hips and shoulders. Experience safe, effective and powerful exercise that balances muscular function and gives you the tools to help your body find the journey of healing it craves.

Stretch Therapy, developed over a 20 year period by Kit Laughlin and his senior teachers in Canberra, is a safe, effective method of improving functional flexibility, reducing muscular tension and remapping how the muscles of the body work together. Combined with other studies in Innovations in Pilates and Rehabilitation, Core Life Concepts' Stretch Therapy sessions can bring dramatic relief from many musculoskeletal injuries.

Back Pain and Stretch Therapy
Back, neck, hip, leg and arm pain can all benefit from Stretch Therapy. Stuart's own story is one of dramatic relief from several recurring back and neck issues. His own experience with these issues through Stretch Therapy ensures a passionate, empathetic approach to training.

The journey of recovery from pain is a highly personal one. Many factors come into play, making recovery unpredictable but possible. Through Core Life Concepts' Stretch Therapy sessions, you will have a qualified, experienced and patient practitioner, ready to journey with you.

More Than Stretching
Stretch Therapy is more than stretching -- it is remapping the brain's perception of the body, so that it has alternative ways to function. For this reason, Stretch Therapy incorporates both flexibility and strengthening exercises. The overriding intention is to improve function -- which is another way of saying, help the body move in the way it is designed to. Although Stretch Therapy incorporates primarily flexibility exercises, it also uses safe strengthening exercises selected for their effectiveness and appropriateness for the individual client.

Stretch Therapy Private Sessions

Private sessions follow a three step process. Clients commit to three initial consultations and decide from there, in consultation with Stuart, how best to continue treatment:

  1. The first session is a 90 minute consultation. During this time, a detailed history of your presenting injuries will be taken. A static postural appraisal, movement analysis and functional flexibility tests will be administered to determine apparent muscular imbalances in your body. Based on this information, appropriate exercises will be selected to help you recover function.
  2. Next comes a 60 minute consultation. This involves learning the appropriate exercises and receiving a copy of the bestselling book, Overcome Neck & Back Pain, by Kit Laughlin.
  3. The third session is another 60 minute session, reviewing the exercises initially prescribed and expanding on them from there. At the end of this session, it may be decided how many private sessions you wish to book in. These subsequent sessions will focus on specific areas of imbalance -- for example, one session may focus on stretching the hip flexors and activating the gluteal (butt) muscles, while another may focus on activation of the deep abdominal muscle.
